(Virtual) Stories from the Nordic American Voices Oral History Program:

Nordic ski jumping was a popular pastime in the Pacific Northwest at the turn of the 20th century, combining the daring of downhill skiing with the beauty of the area's winter wonderland.

The museum interviewed a number of former Nordic ski jumpers between 2010 and 2018 as part of its oral history program. We'll share highlights from a number of interviews, including interivews with Asbjorn (Ozzie) Nordheim, Bjorn Gjolmesli, Gus Raaum, and Jan Kiaer, to highlight the dangers and delights of this sport. Also featured in this presentation are interviews with Hans Ulland (son of jumper Olav Ulland and cousin of jumper Ragnar Ulland), and Louis Larsen and Leif Eie, who both worked at Seattle Center at the time of the famous "coliseum jump."
